Family is what gives Ms. Carroll-La Follette strength each day. Ms. Carroll-La Follette believes people do the very best with what they have. She believes in the importance of relationships and offering unconditional positive regard to those she encounters.

february - ms. calloway - 3rd

I am so honored to be this month’s Teacher of the Month! This is my 6th year teaching and is my first year at Baty. I am so proud to be a Bobcat! I come from a family of teachers and it is my true passion. The students at Baty bring me continuous joy on a daily basis and I feel so fortunate to be a part of their day. I just moved back to Austin this summer after spending the past 6 years in Chicago. I love spending time with my sister and her family, part of which, are my two nephews. I also love to hike and run on the plethora of trails we have here in Austin and also dabble in landscape and portrait photography. Thank you so much and GO BOBCATS!

january - ms. hazard - pre-k

First of all, I am so honored to be the “Teacher of the Month”! Thank you! I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by so many people who inspire and uplift me everyday. I am a middle child who grew up in Houston (HTown! Go Astros! Go Rockets!) and I moved to Austin over 16 years ago to become a Longhorn (Hook ’em horns!). Small children have always been my passion- I started babysitting at age 8, was a nanny through college, happily completed my degree in Child Development and found my dream job as a Pre-K teacher at Baty over 11 years ago! I love all things Austin and I am a regular at Barton Springs, the Greenbelt (with my Rowdy Pups) and Waterloo Records. I love live music and I feel so lucky I get to go to shows every week. There is also a special place in my heart for the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico and the Galveston beaches. I am lucky to live in a little cottage in the Baty neighborhood and I try to walk to work most days. I am proud of my volunteer work with the DVISD Book Bus and two special running organizations, Girls on the Run and Back on My Feet (please ask me if you are interested!) I collect children’s books (I heart Mo Willems!), photographs and vinyls. I love being a part of the Baty community and watching my students grow up here is so rewarding!

December - ms. wilkie - 5th grade

I am so excited to be the teacher of the month for December! I have been at Baty for 7 years now, and have been teaching for almost 10! I am currently a 5th grade teacher, but have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th too. I just recently received my masters in administration and hope to continue to work with wonderful teachers and staff like those I am surrounded with at Baty. Outside of school I love spending time with my two dogs Max and Hunter. I also like to do exciting new things like you see in my picture. I’ve been on a trapeze, skydiving, visited 2 continents (South America and Europe) and 8 countries outside of the USA. I love travelling and can’t wait to do more this summer!

november - Ms. fernandez - 3rd Grade

I am the proud mother of three children. Sara is a Freshman at the University of Texas in Kingsville, currently with a 4.0 grade point average. Gabriel is a Sophomore who loves reading and gaming, of course. Sergio is in 8th grade and loves sports and socializing, just like his mom. I have been teaching for 11 years in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. I began my teaching career in Corpus Christi and came to Baty three years ago. The teachers, administrators, and staff here at Baty are the hardest working and most devoted educators in the entire state of Texas! I am proud and blessed to be working with such an amazing campus full of dedicated and caring professionals. I am proud to be a part of the Baty Family.

October - Ms. Pulte - 4th Grade

I am honored to be named October’s Teacher of the Month.  I am fortunate that I get to work with a great team of teachers and students who inspire me on a daily basis.  I love my Baty family (past and present) and cannot imagine working anywhere else. I received my Masters in Bilingual Education from Southern Methodist University. I love to read in my spare time and would love to visit Europe this summer. As I reflect on my 10th year of teaching, I know that I enjoy being a learner as well as an educator and I am excited to see what comes next.

September - Ms. Cervantes - Music

“My name is Selena Cervantes and I am the music teacher here at Baty Elementary.  I graduated from Texas Lutheran University in May 2016. I am a saxophonist in both jazz and classical settings, as well as a mariachi guitarist. I have a passion for embracing diverse cultures through music, and love to share the appreciation of diversity with my students. Most importantly, I want all of my students to have the opportunity and encouragement to give others and themselves joy through music.”

August - ms. lewis - math coach

Hi! I’m Mrs. Lewis Zambrana! I am so excited to be Teacher of the Month for August. I love everything about being a teacher. This year I am an Instructional Coach for Baty; which is wonderful because I get to work with all of the Baty Bobcats- students and teachers. When I’m not at school, I love hanging out with my husband, daughter, and two puppies (Kent, Briar, Rigby, and Franklin)! We like to see live music, go hiking, and most of all- EAT!! I have never loved a job more than I love being a teacher at Baty. I feel so lucky to work with such wonderful teachers, staff, and students!
